The Connemara School of Irish Dance – Northeastern Pennsylvania
The mission of Scoil Rince na Connemara is to further Irish culture by showing the true beauty, grace, and athleticism of Irish dance which includes intricate solo stepdancing, artistic group choreography, and traditional ceili dancing. We are renowned for our unique blend of progressive stepdancing with modern Celtic sounds that is often imitated, but never duplicated.
Our school draws its inspiration from Connemara, one of the most scenic regions in Ireland. This rugged land, part of the province of Connaught, is where the rebel lords of Ireland were banished long ago. Here, the Irish language and culture were preserved through the long years of English control of the country. The dramatic Connemara landscape with its soaring sea cliffs, network of lakes and bogs, and rocky mountains peaks stands as the celtic fringe of Europe. The main school colors of maroon and white are taken from the traditional maroon sail color of the boats in Galway Bay and white from the limestone deposits of the area.
The Connemara School offers dance lessons for ages 4 & up. Throughout the year, dancers have the opportunity to participate in performances, parades and dance competitions. The school is a member of the North American Irish Dance Federation.
